Green Power Info

Did you know that there is a green energy power plant on the SECCRA property? Well there is- and it's fueled by the methane gas that is formed inside of our landfill.  We call it SECCRA Power, and it has been in operation since 2007.

SECCRA Power produces green, renewable energy through the combustion of methane. Methane is a component of landfill gas, and is a natural byproduct of the decomposition of solid waste in a landfill. Currently, SECCRA Power is producing 2.4 Megawatts of electricity. In total, more than 1,400 homes are powered by this renewable, green power source.

Currently, SECCRA Power is producing 1.8 Megawatts of electricity.  The addition of an additional generator

ensures that the maximum amount of methane is being converted into electricity. The additional generator will

provide an additional 1.6 Megawatts. In total, more than 2,000 homes will be powered by this renewable,

green power source.
