SECCRA does not accept asbestos-containing materials at its landfill or during any household hazardous waste collection events. Asbestos is classified as a regulated hazardous material and requires special handling, packaging, and disposal procedures under state and federal regulations.
Asphalt:
Contact G and A Clanton for asphalt recycling.
ATV’s:
Recycle at the SECCRA Community Landfill. Please ensure that all fluids are drained before bringing to the landfill. Place next to the appliance shed. There is a fee for this service.
Automobiles:
SECCRA does not accept automobiles. There are a lot of organizations that will accept an automobile. Consult Charity Navigator for tips on how to do this.

Bamboo:
SECCRA does not accept bamboo as green waste; all bamboo must be disposed of with regular trash.
Batteries, Car:

Paperback books can be recycled at any of our recycling drop off centers or brought to the SECCRA Community Landfill. Hardcover books can be recycled if the covers are removed. You may also contact your local library to make book donations.
Brake Fluid:
SECCRA does not accept brake fluid for disposal; please visit the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Events page for safe disposal options and event details.
Branches:
SECCRA will accept branches 12” in diameter and under and less than 8’ in length as mulchable yard waste at the fee noted here. When you arrive at the site, inform the weighmaster in the scalehouse that you have branches and they will instruct you as to where to go. Please note: SECCRA does not accept bamboo as green waste; all bamboo must be disposed of with regular trash.

Cleaning Supplies:
SECCRA does not accept anything in a liquid form. Please consult the hazardous waste collection schedule or contact your township.
Clothing:
Recycle at the SECCRA Community Landfill. After entering the site, go to the left, and place in the Salvation Army bins.
Computers:
Recycle at the SECCRA Community Landfill. When you arrive at the facility, inform the weighmaster in the scalehouse that you have electronics. They will instruct you as to the procedure for disposal. This service is free of charge and for residential customers.
Construction Debris:
If your debris is generated in our service area, come to the SECCRA Community Landfill. When you arrive at the site, follow procedure to dispose of your waste. There is a charge for this service. We do not accept any debris containing asbestos.
Concrete:
SECCRA accepts clean concrete pieces smaller than 8 inches. All concrete loads will be inspected before dumping to ensure they meet size and cleanliness requirements. Loads that do not meet these requirements will be rejected. If an unapproved load is dumped, a reloading fee may be charged.
If you have larger concrete pieces, contact G and A Clanton for concrete recycling.

Dehumidifier:
Recycle at the SECCRA Community Landfill. When you arrive at the site, inform the weighmaster in the scalehouse that you have a Freon item. They will instruct you on where to dispose of your item. There is a fee for this service.
Deck Wood:
Dispose of at the SECCRA Community Landfill. Deck wood is to be disposed of as trash for a fee. Please follow the procedure to dispose of your waste.
Diesel Fuel:

Drain Cleaners:

Fish Tanks:
These are not recyclable. Please do not put fish tanks in any recycle bins at the SECCRA Community landfill or their affiliated drop off centers. You may bring them to the SECCRA Community Landfill to dispose of as trash.
Fence Posts:
Fence posts are not considered woody waste and may not be disposed of in the branch pile. The SECCRA Community Landfill will accept fence posts as regular waste for a fee.
Flags:
We do not accept flags, but VFW Post 5467 has a collection box for old flags. You can drop them off at 704 West Baltimore Pike, Kennett Square.
Flammables:
SECCRA does not accept flammables for disposal. Flammables are substances that can easily ignite and catch fire under normal conditions. Common examples of flammables include gasoline, kerosene, lighter fluid, oil based paint, paint thinner, solvents. Freon Appliances:
Recycle at the SECCRA Community Landfill. When you arrive at the site, inform the weighmaster in the scalehouse that you have a Freon item. There is a fee for this service.
Furniture:

If your waste is generated in our service area, come to the SECCRA Community Landfill. When you arrive at the site, follow the procedure to dispose of your waste. There is a fee for this service.
Gasoline:

Glass Bottles and Glass Jars:
Visit one of our recycling drop off centers.
Grass:
Recycle at SECRRA Community Landfill. Inform the weighmaster at the scalehouse that you have just grass. Dispose of in the designated drop off area. If under 500 lbs., and are not a commercial customer there is no charge. Please weigh in and out.
Green Waste:
Recycle at SECRRA Community Landfill. Inform the weighmaster at the scalehouse of the type of green waste you are disposing of. Dispose of in the designated drop off area. There may be a fee depending on the type of green waste. Please note: SECCRA does not accept bamboo as green waste; all bamboo must be disposed of with regular trash.

Helium Tanks:
Recycle empty metal tanks at the SECCRA Community Landfill. The tanks MUST be empty. Place on the side of the electronics shed in the small load drop off. There is a fee for this service.
Herbicides:
SECCRA does not accept herbicides for disposal; please visit the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Events page for safe disposal options and event details.
Hot Water Heaters:
Recycle at the SECCRA Community Landfill. Place next to the electronics shed in the small load drop off. There is a fee for this service.

Household Hazardous Waste (HHW):
SECCRA does accept Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) onsite. Household hazardous waste includes items like automotive fluids, cleaners, fertilizers, gasoline, lithium batteries, oil-based paint, oxidizers, paint thinner and strippers, pesticides, solvents, and other chemical-based products that are flammable, toxic, corrosive, or reactive. Latex Paint:
SECCRA does not accept liquid waste and as such, all latex paint must be dried out or hardened. Once hardened, it may be disposed of at the SECCRA Community Landfill. Please follow disposal procedure. There is a fee for this service.
Lawn Mowers:
Push mowers and riding tractors may be disposed of at the SECCRA Community Landfill. They must be empty of all fluids. Please place the items to the side of the electronics shed in the small load drop off area. There is a fee for this service.
Light Bulbs:
Recycle at GoCler Corporate Lamp in Kennett Square. Contact them at 610-444-0688. If you throw them away, our liner system will keep the groundwater safe.
Limbs:
SECCRA will accept tree limbs 12” in diameter and under and less than 8’ in length as mulchable yard waste at the fee noted here. When you arrive at the site, inform the weighmaster in the scalehouse that you have branches and they will instruct you as to where to go.

Motor Oil:
Recycle at the SECCRA Community Landfill. Transfer the oil into a clean, unused container with a secure lid. Do not mix the oil with any other substances (e.g., antifreeze, water, fuel). After entering the site, go to the left, and proceed to the recycling area. Pour the oil into the clearly marked used oil barrel. Place empty containers in the trash cans outside of the recycling area. Disposal is limited to 15 gallons per person per day.

Railroad ties:
SECCRA accepts small quantities of railroad ties—15 pieces or fewer per day—provided they are cut into lengths of 48 inches or less. Larger quantities or longer pieces will not be accepted.
Rechargeable Batteries:
Please refer to call2recycle.org for a participating recycler in your area. Please do not dispose of lithium batteries in the trash as this can present a fire hazard.
Refrigerant Appliances:

Road Flares:

Scrap Metal:
SECCRA accepts a wide range of of ferrous and non-ferrous metal items. Commonly accepted scrap metal include aluminum, BBQ grills, bed frames, bicycles, brass, cast iron, copper, fence posts, metal lawn furniture, rebar, shelving, stainless steel sinks, tools, tool boxes, and wiring. There is a fee for this service.
Sharps:
Sharps, such as needles and lancets, should never be thrown away loosely into the trash. To safely dispose of sharps, place them in a strong, puncture resistant container with a tight fitting lid (such as laundry detergent bottle). Apply duct tape to the lid to ensure it doesn’t come loose. Use a permanent marker to write “SHARPS” on the container and place in the regular trash.

Smoke Detectors:
Two common types of smoke detector found in residential homes may also be found in some postal facilities. The two types of smoke detectors are ionization and photoelectric detectors. Ionization smoke detectors contain a very minute amount of radioactive material known as Americium 241. Photoelectric-type smoke detectors do not contain any radioactive material. The amount of radioactive material contained in ionization smoke detectors is so small it does not pose a risk to human health. Smoke detectors can be disposed of in your normal trash load or brought to the SECCRA Community Landfill for a fee.
Stumps:
SECCRA Community Landfill does not accept tree stumps. Contact Weaver Mulch at 610-383-6818.
Styrofoam:
Styrofoam can be disposed of with regular household trash. Styrofoam is not accepted in SECCRA’s recycling program and should not be placed in any recycling collection containers.

Tires:
SECCRA aims to provide a convenient and accessible tire recycling service for homeowners and individuals involved in the cleanup of neglected properties while excluding commercial waste tire generators such as automotive repair shops and tire retailers. When you arrive at the site, inform the weighmaster in the scalehouse that you have tires and their size. Please ensure that all rims have been removed and debris, stones and dirt are removed from the tire well. There is a fee for this service. Additional restrictions apply. Please see our policy.
Televisions:
Recycle at the SECCRA Community Landfill. When you arrive at the facility, inform the weighmaster in the scalehouse that you have electronics. They will instruct you as to the procedure for disposal. This service is free of charge for residential customers only.
Transmission Fluid:

Tree Trunks:
SECCRA Community Landfill accepts woody tree waste up to 12” in diameter and 8’ in length for a fee. For larger pieces contact Weaver Mulch at 610-383-6818.

Unused Prescription Drugs:
To dispose of unused prescription drugs in the trash, mix the medications (do not crush tablets or capsules) with an undesirable substance like used coffee grounds or cat litter. Used Antifreeze:
