what is seccra?

SECCRA is a non-profit municipal authority with a publicly appointed board of directors. Assets of the authority are held in trust for the benefit of the community.

Serving Southern Chester County for Over 50 Years

SECCRA has proudly served the solid waste and recycling needs of southern Chester County for more than half a century. Our original landfill, once located in Kennett Square, has since been transformed into part of the Anson B. Nixon Park.

Our current landfill, located in London Grove Township, has been in operation since 1986. Through strategic planning and a commitment to environmental excellence, SECCRA continues to ensure safe, reliable, and sustainable waste management for the region—now and into the future.

Service Area

SECCRA serves approximately 115,000 residents across 24 boroughs and townships in the southern third of Chester County. Our service area continues to grow, with member populations increasing at a rate of about 5% annually. We remain focused on supporting our communities through efficient, cost-effective waste and recycling programs

Strict Waste Acceptance Policy

SECCRA does not accept any waste from outside the SECCRA region or from out-of-state sources. We enforce this through an internal waste screening process and adhering to Chester County's flow control regulations, ensuring that only waste generated by our member communities is accepted at our landfill.

Planning for the Future

SECCRA is committed to long-term planning that meets the evolving needs of our communities while preserving environmental quality. Our forward-thinking approach ensures:

  • Operational continuity

  • Cost-effective service delivery

  • Flexibility to adapt to changing regulations and community needs

Our current operating plan is available for review by any resident, municipality, or organization.
